Sony Xperia Z goes up for pre-order in Slovakia at ?605.99
We don't have too many indications as to how much the newly announced Sony Xperia Z will cost, but one Slovakian retailer has pegged its pre-order price at??605.99. This is just a pre-order price at an online retailer MP3.sk, but we can assume that if a retailer is willing to put up a solid price that the final launch price will be close to it. The 5-inch 1080P?display device has no expected release date on the site, but in the Sony booth at?CES?the rumblings were to expect availability in early March.
As we've seen in the past, unlocked pricing in Europe isn't a great indication of eventual pricing (if it comes here at all) for the U.S. market, but if you live in Europe this will give you an idea of what Sony is going to price the Xperia Z at. The device is a real treat to hold and use, so we can only hope that people can get their hands on one as soon as possible.

Cougar Hunting Seasons to Close Jan. 15 in Several Areas of Washington
Cougar hunts in several areas of the state will close at 12:01 a.m. Jan. 15 after harvest guidelines for the animals were reached in those areas, the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) announced today.?
Game Management Units (GMUs) that will close include 105, 108, 111, 117, 121, 145, 149, 154, 157, 162, 163, 166, 175, 178, 328, 329, 335, 642, 648, and 651.?
Those GMUs are located in Stevens, Pend Oreille, Garfield, Asotin, Walla Walla, Columbia, Kittitas, Chelan, Grays Harbor, Mason and Thurston counties.
Dave Ware, WDFW game manager, said this season?s cougar hunts are the first under a new management plan, approved by the Washington Fish and Wildlife Commission early last year.?
The new plan establishes harvest guidelines for specific areas of the state, based on cougar populations in those areas, said Ware. Under the plan, WDFW can close areas where cougar harvest meets or exceeds guidelines, while continuing to allow for hunting opportunities elsewhere.
?The goal is to preserve a variety of cougar age classes in numerous areas throughout the state, particularly older animals which tend to be more effective at maintaining sustainable populations,? Ware said. ?Going into this season we expected to have to close some areas, but even with these closures most of the state remains open for hunters.?
Ware reminds hunters that during the late-season cougar hunt ? Jan. 1 through March 31 ? other areas of the state could close early. Before going afield, hunters should check WDFW?s website at?http://wdfw.wa.gov/hunting/cougar/?or call the cougar hunting hotline (1-866-364-4868) to check which areas of the state remain open.
Any additional closures will be posted on the website and hotline, both of which will be updated weekly.

'No magic tricks': Obama says he won't negotiate (or work around) the debt ceiling this time
In what's expected to be the final press conference of his first term, President Obama pledged again not to negotiate over the debt ceiling, while dismissing executive actions that might unilaterally pay the nation's bills without congressional action.
"The issue here is whether or not America pays its bills," Obama said, when asked if he was considering an alternative plan. "We are not a deadbeat nation."
Republicans have insisted that the president include spending cuts in any deal to raise the debt ceiling, despite his pledge not to negotiate on those terms.
As one reporter at the press conference pointed out, the president also said he wouldn't negotiate during the last debt-ceiling fight, and also insisted he wouldn't extend any of the Bush tax cuts, though he ultimately did.
"We?ve got to break the habit of negotiating through crisis over and over again," Obama said. "And now is as good a time as any, at the start of my second term. Because if we continue down this path, then there?s really no stopping the principle."
Democrats have tried to come up with some alternatives to bolster the president's ability to avoid default without acceding to Republican demands.
A somewhat fanciful notion of minting a trillion-dollar coin to pay the debt, or at least threatening to do so,?gained considerable traction among liberal economists?after it was endorsed by Rep. Jerry Nadler as a serious possibility. Proponents of the coin hoped that Obama would at least entertain the notion and leave open the possibility as a bargaining chip, but on Saturday night, the treasury department said it would not consider the option, in part because the Federal Reserve was unlikely to recognize the validity of the coin.
On Friday, a group of Democratic senators sent Obama a letter saying he should take "any lawful steps" to avoid default, and pledged their support, echoing House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi who had previously said she would support the president paying the nation's debts under the authority of the Fourteenth Amendment guarantee of the vailidity of national debt.
Asked about the Fourteenth Amendment today, Obama said that "there are no magic tricks, no loopholes, no easy outs."
"There's a pretty straightforward way of doing this: set the debt ceiling aside, we pay our bills, and then we have a vigorous debate about how we're going to do further debt reduction in a balanced way," he said.
"My hope is that common sense prevails," he added.
