health and fitness: Finding A Home Remedy For Eczema - cemifym ...

Approximately eight percent of the population suffer from eczema. The skin condition is caused by a misfiring of one's immune system. The technical term for the disorder is is atopic dermatitis. It is characterized by a relentless inflammation of the skin's top layer, which ultimately leads to crusting, scaling, flaking and other unsightly side effects. The continuous itching and burning associated with its presence, along with its unattractive appearance, leads many people to begin searching for a home remedy for eczema.

Additional scars frequently form because of the continuous scratching many sufferers find hard to control. Numerous individuals search for homeopathic cures or natural remedies to find relief from such symptoms when traditional treatments have not been helpful. In most cases it is not difficult to discover an effective natural cure for eczema. However, a person may find that it is necessary to try different remedies before the most suitable one is found.

Red clover is an option that should be considered by those in search of an herbal supplement for the aforementioned condition. Red clover is popular among patients suffering from particularly severe cases of eczema. This is because it can be placed on blistering skin directly. Many people discover that it only takes one application to notice the difference. The herb is also available in capsule form; however, topical use provides quicker relief of symptoms.

Oils such as black currant and evening primrose are both rich in essential fatty acids. The latter are vital to the general health of most individuals, and are particularly beneficial to patients suffering from skin conditions. Evening primrose and blackcurrant oils are easily obtained in the form of capsules, and the appropriate dose will depend on the patient's weight. However, the recommended dose for the majority of adults is 8000 milligrams daily.

Green tea is another effective natural cure for this disorder. In addition to the numerous health benefits for which it is renowned, green tea is full of anti-inflammatory properties, making it an ideal option for those suffering from eczema. One should drink a minimum of three cups each day, and it makes no difference whether the tea is consumed cold or hot.

Gamma Linolenic Acid, frequently referred to as simply GLA, is in the omega six essential fatty acid category, and has recently gained significant attention from certain individuals in the medical community regarding its ability to lessen the symptoms of this irritating skin disorder. This is due to the fact that it is rich in dihomo-gammalinolenic, an immune system enhancer. The presence of dihomo-gammalinolenic in one's system often reduces the severity and duration of his or her flareups.

Patients should also remember that simple measures, such as avoiding excessive exposure to the sun and keeping their skin clean are also vital to general skin health. Using a multiple vitamin that is rich in antioxidants can also reduce the severity and frequency of an individuals outbreaks.

Additional research is currently being conducted concerning natural cures for this condition. One may need to try various remedies prior to discovering a home remedy for eczema that is helpful. As always, it is essential for all individuals to talk to a physician prior to beginning any new nutritional supplement.

Online Insurance 250x200 The Value of Web Presence for Small BusinessesUndoubtedly, the internet can make the difference between a successful small business and one ignored by customers. Due to the global nature of the Internet surpassing physical frontiers between nations, and even making it unnecessary to use printed business cards when they can easily be hosted online.

Web presence can make small businesses more competitive from any angle, allowing you to understand new trends, as well as discover opportunities and problems without wasting time. A small business with Internet presence improves your opportunity to connect with a number of suppliers and customers that otherwise might not be possible in your local area.

Furthermore, traditional printed business cards including an Internet address, not only opens a new range of possibilities to succeed, but also is a way to increase your communications, showing an appealing professional appearance, no matter how big or small your business or company is actually. Magnetic business cards often create a long-lasting marketing image.

In fact, you will be surprised to see prospective clients seeking what they want through search engines. Others might check for URLs in business cards instead of browsing the printed yellow pages, because a web presence translates is synonym to having a shop or booth in every corner of the world, where every individual or small business can have the same presence as the big enterprises.

Of course, budget, skills, knowledge and other Internet resources determine the performance of every small business online. However, it will always be beneficial to develop your business web presence if you want to get customers from every location around the world or, as a practical alternative, you can create online business cards for you, your partners and employees.

On the Internet, you will find a number of websites offering both services, development of your web presence and creating your online business cards, ranging from low-mid prices to those unaffordable for people who are just starting a new business venture. However, you do not need a big budget to start.

There are a number of free Web hosting services that will gladly give you web space to develop your presence. If you have no idea how to create a website, they usually have facilities called online tools or web site builders, allowing you to create a nice looking page with just a small amount of information regarding your small business, products and services.

If you do not feel comfortable with those tools, there are other options for you. If you want to create only a business card that looks like real printed business cards, you can always get free or cheap web templates, coming in a variety of designs and only requiring your information to be uploaded, which will create your web presence instantly.

WASHINGTON (AP) ? Senate leaders groped for a last-minute compromise Saturday to avoid middle-class tax increases and possibly prevent deep spending cuts at the dawn of the new year as President Barack Obama warned that failure could mean a "self-inflicted wound to the economy."

Obama chastised lawmakers in his weekly radio and Internet address for waiting until the last minute to try and avoid a "fiscal cliff," yet said there was still time for an agreement. "We cannot let Washington politics get in the way of America's progress," he said as the hurry-up negotiations unfolded.

For all the recent expressions of urgency, bargaining took place by phone, email and paper in a Capitol nearly empty except for tourists. Alone among top lawmakers, Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell spent the day in his office.

In the Republicans' weekly address, Sen. Roy Blunt of Missouri cited a readiness to compromise. "Divided government is a good time to solve hard problems ? and in the next few days, leaders in Washington have an important responsibility to work together and do just that," he said.

Even so, there was no guarantee of success, and a dispute over the federal tax on large estates emerged as yet another key sticking point alongside personal income tax rates.

In a blunt challenge to Republicans, Obama said that barring a bipartisan agreement, he expected both houses to vote on his own proposal to block tax increases on all but the wealthy and simultaneously preserve expiring unemployment benefits.

Political calculations mattered as much as deep-seated differences over the issues, as divided government struggled with its first big challenge since the November elections.

Speaker John Boehner remained at arms-length, juggling a desire to avoid the fiscal cliff with his goal of winning another term as speaker when a new Congress convenes next Thursday. Any compromise legislation is certain to include higher tax rates on the wealthy, and the House GOP rank and file rejected the idea when he presented it to them as part of a final attempt to strike a more sweeping agreement with Obama.

Lawmakers have until the new Congress convenes to pass any compromise, and even the calendar mattered. Democrats said they had been told House Republicans might reject a deal until after Jan. 1, to avoid a vote to raise taxes before they had technically gone up and then vote to cut taxes after they had risen.

Nor was any taxpayer likely to feel any adverse impact if legislation is signed and passed into law in the first two or three days of 2013 instead of the final hours of 2012.

Gone was the talk of a grand bargain of spending cuts and additional tax revenue in which the two parties would agree to slash deficits by trillions of dollars over a decade.

Now negotiators had a more cramped goal of preventing additional damage to the economy in the form of higher taxes across the board ? with some families facing increases measured in the thousands of dollars ? as well as cuts aimed at the Pentagon and hundreds of domestic programs.

Republicans said they were willing to bow to Obama's call for higher taxes on the wealthy as part of a deal to prevent them from rising on those less well-off.

Democrats said Obama was sticking to his campaign call for tax increases above $250,000 in annual income, even though he said in recent negotiations he said he could accept $400,000. There was no evidence of agreement even at the higher level.

There were indications from Republicans that estate taxes might hold more significance for them than the possibility of higher rates on income.

One senior Republican, Sen. Jon Kyl of Arizona, said late Friday he was "totally dead set" against Obama's estate tax proposal, and as if to reinforce the point, Blunt mentioned the issue before any other in his broadcast remarks. "Small businesses and farm families don't know how to deal with the unfair death tax_a tax that the president and congressional leaders have threatened to expand to include even more family farms and even more small businesses," he said.

Several officials said Republicans want to leave the tax at 35 percent after exempting the first $5 million in estate value. Officials said the White House wants a 45 percent tax after a $3.5 million exemption. Without any action by Congress, it would climb to a 55 percent tax after a $1 million exemption on Jan. 1.

Democrats stressed their unwillingness to make concessions on both income taxes and the estate tax, and said they hoped Republicans would choose which mattered more to them.

Officials said any compromise was likely to ease the impact of the alternative minimum tax, originally designed to make sure that millionaires did not escape taxation. If left unchanged, it could hit an estimated 28 million households for the first time in 2013, with an average increase of more than $3,000.

Taxes on dividends and capital gains are also involved in the talks, as well as a series of breaks for businesses and others due to expire at the first of the year.

Obama and congressional Democrats are insisting on an extension of long-term unemployment benefits that are expiring for about 2 million jobless individuals.

Leaders in both parties also hope to prevent a 27 percent fee cut from taking effect on Jan. 1 for doctors who treat Medicare patients.

There was also discussion of a short-term extension of expiring farm programs, in part to prevent a spike in milk prices at the first of the year. It wasn't clear if that was a parallel effort to the cliff talks or had become wrapped into them.

Across-the-board spending cuts that comprise part of the cliff were a different matter.

Republicans say Boehner will insist that they will begin to take effect unless negotiators agreed to offset them with specified savings elsewhere.

That would set the stage for the next round of brinkmanship ? a struggle over Republican calls for savings from Medicare, Medicaid and other federal benefit programs.

The Treasury's ability to borrow is expected to expire in late winter or early spring, and without an increase in the $16.4 trillion limit, the government would face its first-ever default. Republicans have said they will use administration requests for an extension as leverage to win cuts in spending.

Ironically, it was just such a maneuver more than a year ago that set the stage for the current crisis talks over the fiscal cliff.

Top 10 New Year's Bowl Games And How To Tailgate For Them ...

Ah, New Year?s Eve, that awful, crushing night where you want something awesome to happen so badly. Instead, it?s freezing cold and you?re either going to be stuck at home watching reruns of Everyone Loves Raymond with your parents, or you?re going to be wedged into a bar with so, so many sweaty people and $12 Bud Lights. It just sucks no matter what you do.

So what can you do to survive the letdown into 2013? Well that?s easy. Get drunk and watch football. After all, that?s been your escape hatch for graduations, funerals, weddings and subsequent divorce proceedings. Why would you change up your game plan now?

Here?s the deal: we?re going to walk you through all 10 of the bowl games from December 31 to January 1, with tips on who?s playing and how to properly tailgate for the game. Of course, to hit all 10, you?d need to be some kind of drinking wizard. But if that?s the case, why would you use your powers of teleportation for partying? That?s irresponsible. You need to rethink your priorities.

    10. Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl

    (December 31, 12:00 PM EST)

Ok, let?s start keeping score, because right now the record for most words in a bowl game name is currently five. Of course, the record is the ?Beef O? Brady Happy Hour American Hero Petsmart.Com Bowl? between the Elon Naps and the Youngstown State Sadness Binges. The Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl (or ?FAMMCB,? which just rolls off the tongue) is between the NC State Wolf Pack and the Vanderbilt Commodores. Now, how popular is this bowl game? Well, according to the Facebooks, 6,728 people like the FAMMCB, and 9,723 people like the state of Idaho (seriously). So it?s like that.

Recommended Tailgate Food: Take out from the world famous Loveless Cafe.

Recommended Tailgate Beverage: As much Tennessee whiskey as you can get your hands on.

    9. Hyundai Sun Bowl

    (December 31, 2:00 PM EST)

Well, color me surprised. Apparently the Hyundai Sun is not an electro-car, and the Hyundai Sun Bowl is not an orange juice drink on Benihana?s breakfast menu. Instead, it?s a throwdown between former #1 USC and perennial guys that are just sorta ?there??? the Ramblin? Wreck of Georgia Tech. Now, this game is being held in El Paso, TX, so you?re going to want to hit up all of El Paso?s amazing clubs, incredible museums, tasty restaurants and happening downtown. Woof

Recommended Tailgate Food: Based on those pictures? Pack some ham sandwiches from home.

Recommended Tailgate Beverage: Juicy Juice and Vodka. Or all the beer.

    8. AutoZone Liberty Bowl

    (December 31, 3:30 PM EST)

Doesn?t ?AutoZone Liberty? sound like AutoZone?s rewards program? Yeah, I know, I used a similar joke the last couple entries, but you know what? These bowl names are ridiculous! I?m going to keep on going back to this well until we go back to ?The Freedom Bowl,? because frankly, the ?Taco Bell Dot Com Cheesy Crunchalicious Bowl? is all sorts of silly.

    Anyway.

At least this bowl is between All World teams Iowa State and Tulsa. Hey! the Autozone Liberty Bowl is held in Memphis, so instead of the Easy Mac Mediocre Bowl, why not spend your tailgate at Sun Records, Stax Records or Beale Street instead? If you miss the game, that?s probably alright.

Recommended Tailgate Food: Forget Rendezvous. It?s overrated. Get yourself some of Gus? World Famous Fried Chicken.

Recommended Tailgate Beverage: Gotta stay local. Check out Memphis? own Ghost River Brewing.

    7. Chick-fil-A Bowl

    (December 31, 7:30 PM EST)

More like the ?TIGER?-fil-A bowl, amirite guys? Haha! Seriously, though, say no to poaching. Now, this should actually be a pretty solid game, not only because both teams are 10-2, but because I can get behind any game that features my favorite name in the history of college football?? Barkevious Mingo. He is the Pops-Mensah-Bonsu of college football. I don?t know or care what position he plays. I just know he exists and that?s his name.

Recommended Tailgate Food: If you?re a fan of the predictable? Chick-fil-A, no matter how gross and overrated. If you?re a fan of the unpredictable? A balloon full of beef donuts.

Recommended Tailgate Beverage: Terrapin Beer. These guys apprenticed under the folks at Dogfish Head, and rumor has it that the artist who draws their labels was the same fella what worked on the Grateful Dead. Check ?em out.

    6. Taxslayer.com Gator Bowl

    (January 1, 12:00 PM EST)

Fun fact, it?s not the Gator Bowl, sponsored by Taxslayer.com. It?s named after a character named ?The Taxslayer.com Gator.? He?s not a business, he?s just a reptile that haaaaaates it when you don?t get your full return! At least you can spend your tailgate partying in? Jacksonville? Ok. Get? whatever food you can and just? try to get through this.

    Recommended Tailgate Food: Triscuit crackers.

Recommended Tailgate Beverage: Room temperature water.

    5. The Heart of Dallas Bowl

    (January 1, 12:00 PM EST)

This bowl is held at the Cotton Bowl, but is not THE Cotton Bowl. Actually, The Cotton Bowl is being held at Cowboys Stadium. Football is silly. One of these days we should really stop talking about it.

Now, the good news about the about the Cotton Bowl (stadium) is that it?s held on the Texas State Fair Grounds. Understand, this is a place that?s famous for frying Coke, lattes, cookie dough, butter and beer. Someone actually won an award for ?Buffalo Chicken in a Flapjack.? No, for real. LOOK.

So, tailgating for this game, you?re going to have all this stuff feeding Purdue Fans from Indiana and Oklahoma State fans from, well, Oklahoma. Put on a pot of coffee, Baylor Senior Health Center. This tailgate is going to be amazing, but you are going to do some record business.

Recommended Tailgate Food: Buffalo chicken in a flapjack, apparently.

Recommended Tailgate Beverage: Concentrated fish oil.

    4. Outback Bowl

    (January 1, 1 PM EST)

Much like its sponsor, the Outback Bowl will feature a salty main course with forgettable side dishes. However, at least you?ll get the chance to witness Michigan?s Denard Robinson spectacularly failing one last time before getting shuffled off to the pros, where he?ll be taken in the 5th round by the Dolphins as a return man. And then we?ll never have to hear from this loose-shoelaced bum ever again.

Recommended Tailgate Food: Get yourself some authentic cubano sandwiches from Ybor City, man.

Recommended Tailgate Beverage: Get thee to Cigar City Brewing and stock up as much as you can!

    3. Capital One Bowl

    (January 1, 1 PM EST)

The Capital One Bowl nee Capital One Florida Citrus Bowl nee Ourhouse.com Florida Citrus Bowl nee CompUSA Florida Cirtus Bowl nee Florida Citrus Bowl nee Tangerine Bowl is a decent bowl match-up (Georgia v. Nebraska. I can buy that) in a good enough town (Orlando. Meh). And who wouldn?t want to visit the home of ?90s super-group O-Town?

While you?re there, pay homage to Capital One while you can. For this tailgate, dress up like a Capital One Viking and use it as an excuse to plunder everyone else?s meat and beer.

Recommended Tailgate Food: Let?s see uh? Orlando? a bowl of oranges?

Recommended Tailgate Beverage: Orange juice and vodka?

    2. Rose Bowl Game Presented by Vizio

    (January 1, 5:00 PM EST)

What the hell does Vizio even do!? Why can they afford a bowl game!?

Ok, so there?s some good news here. Wisconsin is a state that absolutely loves abusing their bodies with food and alcohol. And Stanford?s located not too far from the Anchor brewery. And even better, the game is being held in Pasadena, which isn?t that far from the Stone Brewery. In other words, between these two fan bases, all you?ll have to do is show up with beer and cheese and the rest of the script should write itself. It?ll be a good way to watch the sixth best team in the Big Ten play in a premier bowl.

Recommended Tailgate Food: All the cheese.

Recommended Tailgate Beverage: All the beer.

    1. Discover Orange Bowl

    (January 1, 8:30 PM EST)

I like that the name of this bowl game is also a call to action. Like, ?Hey, slack-jawed yokel, Discover the Orange Bowl!? Haha. What?s that? Oh! The article!

Right, so this white-knuckle match-up pits the Florida State Seminoles against the Northern Illinois Huskies, teams that not even people in northern Illinois want to see. But hey, that?s the BCS for you.

BUT it?s also the last bowl on our last, so let?s go out with a bang!

Recommended Tailgate Food: Whatever fancy schmancy hors d?oeuvres you can get!

Recommended Tailgate Beverage: ALL THE CHAMPAGNE!

Of course, these are all appetizers for the main course on January 7th. But we?re not talking about that, for fear of jinxing anything. So enjoy the bowl season, enjoy the New Year, and be safe.

Check out more Tailgating Top 10s.

HP says gov't investigating troubled Autonomy unit

(AP) ? Hewlett-Packard says the Justice Department is investigating the business software unit Autonomy after the computer maker said the business engaged in improper accounting before HP bought it.

In a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission late Thursday, HP said Justice officials had informed the company on Nov. 21 that they were opening an investigation. HP also said that it provided information to the SEC and the U.K. Serious Fraud Office related to "accounting improprieties, disclosure failures and misrepresentations at Autonomy."

Hewlett-Packard Co., which acquired Autonomy for $10 billion in 2011, took an $8.8 billion charge to reflect that the U.K. company isn't worth what it paid. HP says about $5 billion of that charge stemmed from improper accounting.

Autonomy founder Mike Lynch has said the allegations are false.

A make-or-break moment for 'fiscal cliff' negotiations

WASHINGTON (AP) ? Amid partisan bluster, top members of Congress and President Barack Obama were holding out slim hopes for a limited fiscal deal before the new year. But even as congressional leaders prepared to convene at the White House, there were no signs that legislation palatable to both sides was taking shape.

The Friday afternoon meeting among congressional leaders and the president ? their first since Nov. 16 ? stood as a make-or-break moment for negotiations to avoid across-the-board first of the year tax increases and deep spending cuts.

Obama called for the meeting as top lawmakers alternately cast blame on each other while portraying themselves as open to a reasonable last-minute bargain.

Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid all but conceded that any effort at this late date was a long shot. "I don't know timewise how it can happen now," he said.

For Obama, the 11th-hour scramble represented a test of how he would balance the strength derived from his re-election with his avowed commitment to compromise. Despite early talk of a grand bargain between Obama and House Speaker John Boehner that would reduce deficits by more than $2 trillion, the expectations were now far less ambitious.

Although there were no guarantees of a deal, Republicans and Democrats said privately that any agreement would likely include an extension of middle-class tax cuts with increased rates at upper incomes, an Obama priority that was central to his re-election campaign. The deal would also likely put off the scheduled spending cuts. Such a year-end bill could also include an extension of expiring unemployment benefits, a reprieve for doctors who face a cut in Medicare payments and possibly a short-term measure to prevent dairy prices from soaring, officials said.

To get there, Obama and Reid would have to propose a package that Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell would agree not to block with procedural steps that require 60 votes to overcome.

Sen. Chuck Schumer of New York said he still thinks a deal could be struck.

The Democrat told NBC's "Today" show Friday that he believes the "odds are better than people think."

Schumer said he based his optimism on indications that McConnell has gotten "actively engaged" in the talks.

Appearing on the same show, Republican Sen. John Thune noted the meeting scheduled later Friday at the White House, saying "it's encouraging that people are talking."

But Sen. Bob Corker, R-Tenn., predicted that "the worst-case scenario" could emerge from Friday's talks.

"We will kick the can down the road," he said on "CBS This Morning."

"We'll do some small deal and we'll create another fiscal cliff to deal with the fiscal cliff," he said. Corker complained that there has been "a total lack of courage, lack of leadership," in Washington.

Speaking on the Senate floor Thursday, McConnell cautioned: "Republicans aren't about to write a blank check for anything the Democrats put forward just because we find ourselves at the edge of the cliff."

Nevertheless, he said he told Obama in a phone call late Wednesday that "we're all happy to look at whatever he proposes."

If a deal were to pass the Senate, Boehner would have to agree to take it to the floor in the Republican-controlled House.

Boehner discussed the fiscal cliff with Republican members in a conference call Thursday and advised them that the House would convene Sunday evening. Rep. Tom Cole, R-Okla., an ally of the speaker, said Boehner told the lawmakers that "he didn't really intend to put on the floor something that would pass with all the Democratic votes and few of the Republican votes."

But Cole did not rule out Republican support for some increase in tax rates, noting that Boehner had amassed about 200 Republican votes for a plan last week to raise rates on Americans earning $1 million or more. Boehner ultimately did not put the plan to a House floor vote in the face of opposition from Republican conservatives and a unified Democratic caucus.

"The ultimate question is whether the Republican leaders in the House and Senate are going to push us over the cliff by blocking plans to extend tax cuts for the middle class," White House communications director Dan Pfeiffer said. "Ironically, in order to protect tax breaks for millionaires, they will be responsible for the largest tax increase in history."

Boehner, McConnell, Reid and House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi are all scheduled to attend Friday's White House meeting with Obama. Vice President Joe Biden will also participate in the meeting, the White House said.

Despite the urgency to act, the rhetoric Thursday was quarrelsome and personal.

The House of Representatives is "being operated with a dictatorship of the speaker," Reid said on the Senate floor. He attributed Boehner's reluctance to put a version of Senate bill that raised tax rates on incomes above $250,000 for couples to fears he could lose his re-election as speaker next week.

"Harry Reid should talk less and legislate more if he wants to avert the fiscal cliff," countered Brendan Buck, a spokesman for Boehner.

If a deal is not possible, it should become evident at Friday's White House meeting. If that occurs, Obama and the leaders would leave the resolution to the next Congress to address in January.

Such a delay could unnerve the stock market, which performed erratically Thursday amid the developments in Washington. Economists say that if the tax increases are allowed to hit most Americans and if the spending cuts aren't scaled back, the recovering but fragile economy could sustain a traumatizing shock.

But a sentiment is taking hold that despite a black eye to its image, Congress could weather the fiscal cliff without significant economic consequences if it acts decisively next month.

"Going over is likely because at this point both sides probably see a better deal on the other side of the cliff," Jared Bernstein, Biden's former economic adviser, wrote in a blog post Thursday.

By letting current tax cuts expire and rise, Bernstein and others say, Republicans would be voting to lower taxes next month, even if not for all taxpayers. Democrats ? and Obama ? would be in a stronger position to demand that taxpayers above the $250,000 threshold pay higher taxes, instead of the $400,000 threshold that Obama proposed in his latest offer to Boehner.

And the debate over spending cuts, including changes to politically sensitive entitlement programs such as Medicare, would have to start anew.

How Internet Faxing Can Improve Your Business | TechSling Weblog

If you?re wondering what one of the steps is to create a successful business, it is communication ?which is why you should consider sending a fax online instead of with your old office fax machine. It may not make sense now if your business is still in the startup stages, but upgrading to a professional phone system will provide your company with more opportunities than your regular landline or fax machine is an investment that will pay off in increased company productivity as well as the chance to gain added revenue. In this day and age, information is readily available to us via the dynamic developments in communication technology, and by being able to send a fax via online means, you are equipping your company to take on bigger challenges.

What Are Some Benefits of Internet Faxing?

Internet fax is a feature that can come with your company?s business phone service. Since sending a fax online lets you do it from your personal email address and fax number, you instantly eliminate the difficulties that might arise from using a traditional fax machine, such as running out of ink or paper, the chance of paper jamming, etc. This also makes sending faxes online more secure than traditional faxing, because you?re sure that the information transmitted goes straight to your inbox.

Internet fax messaging is also a cost-effective solution to your business, since the cost of sending a fax is included in your monthly payment for your ISP. With traditional faxing, you have to contend with pricey long-distance calls, spending for the cost of toner cartridges, paper, etc. Having your own special Internet fax number serves as your ID when sending and receiving a fax online, and provides you with greater mobility, so you can access your important files while on the go.

Sending and receiving a fax online can also increase company productivity because the process can be done within a matter of seconds. Unlike traditional faxing where the person has to pick up the phone and allow it to be printed out, you can send and receive fax messages with just one click of the mouse.

For environmentalists, Internet fax messaging is a great way to go ?green,? and lessen the unnecessary use of resources such as paper, ink and toner. When you transmit a fax online, you can choose to print only what is necessary and continue to send and receive messages electronically.

Reliability is an important factor in communication, and by sending online faxes, you?ll be assured that your coworkers and customers can receive the files without the inconvenience of dealing with a busy phone line and other things like that. Make sure that your online fax provider is reliable and stable?try to get a top-tier name like RingCentral.

Invest in a phone system that allows you to send and receive a fax online in order to equip you with ways to address all the needs of your growing business.

Snow, rain soak eastern United States in post-Christmas storms

WINSTON-SALEM, North Carolina (Reuters) - The severe winter weather that hit parts of the central and southern United States on Christmas Day moved eastward on Wednesday, with forecasters predicting heavy snow in the Ohio Valley and possible tornadoes in the coastal Carolinas.

The National Weather Service issued blizzard and winter storm warnings in Illinois, Indiana and Ohio, as well as much of the Northeast, and warned motorists of "treacherous" driving conditions in those areas.

At airports across the Northeast, holiday travelers braced for flight delays. Some flights headed for Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey were experiencing delays of more than an hour on Wednesday because of the inclement weather.

The NWS said more than six inches of snow might fall in those regions, while the area from western New York up into central Maine could get from 12 to 18 inches.

As of Wednesday morning, Bloomington, Indiana, already had nearly a foot of snow and Indianapolis had about seven inches, according to AccuWeather.com.

Severe thunderstorms and widespread rain were expected from southeast Virginia to Florida, with the eastern counties in North Carolina and South Carolina under a tornado watch, the NWS said.

The wet and snowy conditions follow a major winter storm system that swept through the southern United States on Tuesday, spawning tornadoes in several states and causing the death of two people in weather-related road accidents.

Twisters struck in Alabama, Mississippi, Texas and Louisiana, flattening houses and causing injuries, according to the weather service.

Declaring a state of emergency, Mississippi Governor Phil Bryant deployed resources to the multiple counties in that state that reported damaged homes and businesses, power outages and flooding.

Tuesday's storms also contributed to a 21-vehicle pile-up that shut Interstate 40 in downtown Oklahoma City and caused power outages for tens of thousands of residents.

A Texas man died after an accident involving a toppled tree in the road, and there was another weather-related fatality on I-44 in Oklahoma, according to local authorities.

Last full moon of 2012 rises Friday

The last full moon of 2012 will rise into the night sky this week in a year-ending lunar treat.

The full moon is actually an instantaneous event when the moon is exactly opposite the sun in the Earth's sky, and this month that occurs on Friday morning, Dec. 28, at 5:21 a.m. EST (1021 GMT). But, to the naked eye, the moon "looks" full for a couple of days on either side of that time, so the exact date doesn't matter.

    1. Space news from NBCNews.com

      1. Grasshopper rocket takes 12-story-high hop for SpaceX

Science editor Alan Boyle's blog: SpaceX's prototype Grasshopper rocket takes one giant leap, rising to a 12-story height and settling back down safely with a dummy cowboy riding along.

      2. Updated 109 minutes ago 12/26/2012 7:25:07 PM +00:00 Last full moon of 2012 rises Friday
      3. Telescope-toting balloon lifts off from Antarctica
      4. 'Star of Wonder' leaves lots to wonder about

Many owners of new telescopes are disappointed when they look at the planets. At its largest, the planet Venus is just barely one arc minute in diameter, about 1/30th of the diameter of the sun or the moon, and all the other planets appear smaller than that.

Telescope owners complain that the planets don't look any larger with a telescope than they do with the naked eye. That isn't true of course, because any telescope will magnify everything dozens or hundreds of times. But when something is as small as a planet, even a lot of magnification won't make it look very big.

    [ Amazing Moon Photos of 2012 ]

    Moon size comparison
The reason why the sun appears 30 times bigger than Venus is because the sun is very large. Its true diameter is more than 100 times that of Venus, or of Earth, for that matter, since Venus and Earth are about the same size. The moon appears 30 times bigger than Venus not because it is large, but because it is very close to us. The moon is 2,159 miles in diameter (3,475 kilometers), as compared to the Earth's 7,926 miles (12,756 km) and Venus' 7,521 miles (12,104 km).

In other words, the moon is just slightly more than a quarter of the diameter of the Earth or Venus. Mercury is the planet closest in size to the moon at 3,032 miles in diameter (4,879 km), about 40 percent larger than our moon. One of the reasons that Pluto was demoted to "dwarf planet" status was its small diameter of only 1,485 miles (2,390 km), two-thirds of the diameter of our moon.

Our moon is very large in proportion to its planet, Earth, more than any other moons in the solar system except for Pluto's moon Charon. But because other planets are much larger than Earth, several of their moons are much larger than ours, including three of Jupiter's moons (Io, Ganymede, and Callisto) and one of Saturn's (Titan). Of these, Ganymede is the largest at 3,270 miles (5,262 km), slightly larger than the planet Mercury.

    The moon as a planet
Even if you don't own a telescope, looking at the moon with the naked eye can show you the challenges faced by planetary observers.

Earlier this week we saw Jupiter shining brightly alongside the moon. It would take a telescope magnifying about 40 times to make Jupiter appear as big as the moon does with the naked eye. When Mars was closest to Earth in 2003, it took a telescope magnifying 75 times to make Mars appear as big as the moon with the naked eye. At present Mars on the far side of the sun, and requires a telescope magnifying 430 times to make it appear as big as the moon does with the naked eye.

So, if you want an observing challenge similar to trying to spot Jupiter's Great Red Spot or Mars' polar cap, try observing detail on the moon with your naked eye.

    The man in the moon
What most people see when they look at the moon is " the man in the moon." This is a pattern of light and dark caused by the albedo markings on the moon. ?Albedo? is a measure of how much light gets reflected by an area on a planet.

Darker areas on the moon's surface, which the early astronomers called "seas," although we now know that they are dry and airless, form the face of a man, in our mind?s eye. Or, they may form a woman, or a rabbit, depending on your culture. These are very similar to the dusky markings which astronomers observe with telescopes on Mars and Mercury, also called albedo markings.

If you try to sketch the markings you see on the moon, you will find, as experienced planetary observers do, that you can see much finer detail than the man in the moon. You should be able to see some of the smaller seas, such as the Mare Crisium, on the eastern limb of the moon, and one or two of the brighter craters, such as Tycho towards the southern limb.

Once you have tried to sketch the moon with your naked eye, try observing it with a small binocular. You will be amazed at how much more detail you can see, and will begin to experience the wonder Galileo must have felt when he first turned his primitive telescopes on the moon. There really is another world out there.

If you snap an amazing photo of the year's final full moon on Friday and would like to share it with SPACE.com for a potential story or gallery, submit photos and comments, including your name and location to spacephotos@space.com.

www.iobit.com Welcome one and all to the first episode of Home Improvement! What more can I say? Oh I know what I can say? I really don?t know what happened with the audio. Clearly at the beginning of the video, its fine, but slowly it becomes more and more off-sync with the video. Personally, I dont even know how that is possible, since that means the audio is going FASTER than the video, which makes little to no sense to me. Regardless, I will see what I can do to get it fixed, thanks for toughing it out. I really did not want to delete the episode and start over, so I appreciate your understanding. :D

Over the fiscal cliff: What kind of landing?

WASHINGTON (AP) ? Efforts to save the nation from going over a year-end "fiscal cliff" were in disarray as lawmakers fled the Capitol for their Christmas break. "God only knows" how a deal can be reached now, House Speaker John Boehner declared.

President Barack Obama, on his way out of town himself, insisted a bargain could still be struck before Dec. 31. "Call me a hopeless optimist," he said.

A look at why it's so hard for Republicans and Democrats to compromise on urgent matters of taxes and spending, and what happens if they fail to meet their deadline:

    ___

    NEW YEAR'S HEADACHE

Partly by fate, partly by design, some scary fiscal forces come together at the start of 2013 unless Congress and Obama act to stop them. They include:

? Some $536 billion in tax increases, touching nearly all Americans, because various federal tax cuts and breaks expire at year's end.

? About $110 billion in spending cuts divided equally between the military and most other federal departments. That's about 8 percent of their annual budgets, 9 percent for the Pentagon.

Hitting the national economy with that double whammy of tax increases and spending cuts is what's called going over the "fiscal cliff." If allowed to unfold over 2013, it would lead to recession, a big jump in unemployment and financial market turmoil, economists predict.

    ___

WHAT IF THEY MISS THE DEADLINE?

If New Year's Day arrives without a deal, the nation shouldn't plunge onto the shoals of recession immediately. There still might be time to engineer a soft landing.

So long as lawmakers and the president appear to be working toward agreement, the tax hikes and spending cuts could mostly be held at bay for a few weeks. Then they could be repealed retroactively once a deal was reached.

The big wild card is the stock market and the nation's financial confidence: Would traders start to panic if Washington appeared unable to reach accord? Would worried consumers and businesses sharply reduce their spending? In what could be a preview, stock prices around the world dropped Friday after House Republican leaders' plan for addressing the fiscal cliff collapsed.

Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke has warned lawmakers that the economy is already suffering from the uncertainty and they shouldn't risk making it worse by blowing past their deadline.

    WHAT IF THEY NEVER AGREE?

If negotiations between Obama and Congress collapse completely, 2013 looks like a rocky year.

Taxes would jump $2,400 on average for families with incomes of $50,000 to $75,000, according to a study by the non-partisan Tax Policy Center. Because consumers would get less of their paychecks to spend, businesses and jobs would suffer.

At the same time, Americans would feel cuts in government services; some federal workers would be furloughed or laid off, and companies would lose government business. The nation would lose up to 3.4 million jobs, the Congressional Budget Office predicts.

"The consequences of that would be felt by everybody," Bernanke says.

    ___

    THE TAXES

Much of the disagreement surrounds the George W. Bush-era income tax cuts, and whether those rates should be allowed to rise for the nation's wealthiest taxpayers. Both political parties say they want to protect the middle-class from tax increases.

Several tax breaks begun in 2009 to stimulate the economy by aiding low- and middle-income families are also set to expire Jan. 1. The alternative minimum tax would expand to catch 28 million more taxpayers, with an average increase of $3,700 a year. Taxes on investments would rise, too. More deaths would be covered by the federal estate tax, and the rate climbs from 35 percent to 55 percent. Some corporate tax breaks would end.

The temporary Social Security payroll tax cut also is due to expire. That tax break for most Americans seems likely to end even if a fiscal cliff deal is reached, now that Obama has backed down from his call to prolong it as an economic stimulus.

    ___

    THE SPENDING

If the nation goes over the fiscal cliff, budget cuts of 8 percent or 9 percent would hit most of the federal government, touching all sorts of things from agriculture to law enforcement and the military to weather forecasting. A few areas, such as Social Security benefits, Veterans Affairs and some programs for the poor, are exempt.

    ___

    THERE'S MORE AT STAKE

All sorts of stuff could get wrapped up in the fiscal cliff deal-making. A sampling:

? Some 2 million jobless Americans may lose their federal unemployment aid. Obama wants to continue the benefits extension as part of the deal; Republicans say it's too costly.

? Social Security recipients might see their checks grow more slowly. As part of a possible deal, Obama and Republican leaders want to change the way cost-of-living adjustments are calculated, which would mean smaller checks over the years for retirees who get Social Security, veterans' benefits or government pensions.

? The price of milk could double. If Congress doesn't provide a fix for expiring dairy price supports before Jan. 1, milk-drinking families could feel the pinch. One scenario is to attach a farm bill extension to the fiscal cliff legislation ? if a compromise is reached in time.

? Millions of taxpayers who want to file their 2012 returns before mid-March will be held up while they wait to see if Congress comes through with a deal to stop the alternative minimum tax from hitting more people.

    ___

    CALL THE WHOLE THING OFF?

In theory, Congress and Obama could just say no to the fiscal cliff, by extending all the tax cuts and overturning the automatic spending reductions in current law. But both Republicans and Democrats agree it's time to take steps to put the nation on a path away from a future of crippling debt.

Indeed, the automatic spending cuts set for January were created as a last-ditch effort to force Congress to deal with the debt problem.

If Washington bypassed the fiscal cliff, the next crisis would be just around the corner, in late February or early March, when the government reaches a $16.4 trillion ceiling on the amount of money it can borrow.

Boehner says Republicans won't go along with raising the limit on government borrowing unless the increase is matched by spending cuts to help attack the long-term debt problem. Failing to raise the debt ceiling could lead to a first-ever U.S. default that would roil the financial markets and shake worldwide confidence in the United States.

To avoid that scenario, Obama and Boehner are trying to wrap a debt limit agreement into the fiscal cliff negotiations.

    ___

    SO WHAT'S THE HOLDUP?

They're at loggerheads over some big questions.

Obama says any deal must include higher taxes for the wealthiest Americans. Many House Republicans oppose raising anyone's tax rates. Boehner tried to get the House to vote for higher taxes only on incomes above $1 million but dropped the effort when it became clear he didn't have the votes.

Republicans also insist on deeper spending cuts than Democrats want to make. And they want to bring the nation's long-term debt under control by significantly curtailing the growth of Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security ? changes that many Democrats oppose.

Obama, meanwhile, wants more temporary economic "stimulus" spending to help speed up a sluggish recovery. Republicans say the nation can't afford it.

    ___

    IT'S NOT JUST WASHINGTON

Seems like they could just make nice, shake hands and split their differences, right?

But there's a reason neither side wants to give ground. The two parties represent a divided and inconsistent America. True, Obama just won re-election. But voters also chose a Republican majority in the House.

Republican and Democrats alike say they are doing what the voters back home want.

Neither side has a clear advantage in public opinion. In an Associated Press-GfK poll, 43 percent said they trust the Democrats more to manage the federal budget deficit and 40 percent preferred the Republicans. There's a similar split on who's more trusted with taxes.

About half of Americans support higher taxes for the wealthy, the poll says, and about 10 percent want tax increases all around. Still, almost half say cutting government services, not raising taxes, should be the main focus of lawmakers as they try to balance the budget.

When asked about specific budget cuts being discussed in Washington, few Americans express support for them.

    ___

    THE COUNTDOWN

Time for deal-making is short, thanks to the holiday and congressional calendars. Some key dates for averting the fiscal cliff:

? Lawmakers aren't expected to return to the Capitol until Thursday, leaving less than a week to vote on a compromise before year's end.

? Obama and his family also left town for a Christmas vacation in Hawaii. The president said because the fiscal cliff was still unresolved, he would return to Washington this week.

? If lawmakers reach Dec. 31 without a deal, some economists worry that the financial markets might swoon.

? The current Congress is in session only through noon Eastern time on Jan. 3. After that, a newly elected Congress with 13 new senators and 82 new House members would inherit the problem.

Air Bagan survivor tells of terrifying landing

YANGON, Myanmar (AP) ? Air Bagan says it has found the black box after a dramatic Christmas Day crash-landing, as survivors told terrifying tales of escape and expressed disbelief that only two people died.

Details of the accident remain unclear, though the airline and officials have blamed heavy fog for the aircraft's crash into a rice paddy field where it burst into flames. Four foreigners were among 11 people injured.

Australian survivor, Anna Bartsch, on Wednesday described the landing as a fast, very bumpy roller-coaster ride. She recounted looking out the window, seeing flames and racing out to safety.

"It's amazing that the injuries were not more serious," said the 31-year-old. "It could have been much worse."

Air Bagan is sending the black box to Singapore to study the cause of the accident.
