Most of us assume the security software is ?doing what it?s designed to do?: protecting our online presence, but guess what? It?s not enough to ?think? everything?s okay. Here are some things you can do to ensure you?re protected.

1) Microsoft has a collection of compatible antivirus vendors and a lot of them are free. And if you?re still running some old, and I do mean old versions of Windows, check out Windows XP on Google.

2) For you Mac users, try Sophos Anti-Virus or Norton?s iAntivirus.

3) And if you are Linux users, there?s help for you, too. Try Linux Anti-Virus .As an added measure, keep your firewall enabled.

Crews drain lake as search resumes for Iowa girls

Updated at 5:28 p.m. ET: Crews resumed searching Monday for two Iowa girls who disappeared on Friday afternoon. Over the weekend, nearly 1,000 volunteers combed a 12-mile area around Evansdale, Iowa, where the girls were last seen around noon, riding their bikes.?

Authorities said late Sunday that there were no indications of foul play in the disappearances of Lyric Cook-Morrissey, 10, of Waterloo and Elizabeth Collins, 8, of Evansdale but they were not ruling anything out.

The girls' bikes were found later in the day on Friday near a bike trail, the Quad-City (Iowa) Times reported. Elizabeth's purse and a non-working cell phone she used to play games were also found.?

?

"We've covered everything we can cover with civilian people," Marcus Norman, volunteer coordinator with Evansdale Fire Department, told the Des Moines Register on Sunday. "Law enforcement is still working on the residential areas and things of that sort."

Rescue crews went by foot, horseback and 4-wheelers along with search and rescue dogs, WHOTV Des Moines reported.

The search included local authorities and volunteers, with help from state and national agencies including the FBI and National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, the Register reported.

Lake searched
The five-acre Myers Lake was dragged on Sunday, but the search did not turn up any sign of the girls, Black Hawk Sheriff's Deputy Rick Abben told the Register. Officials started draining the lake on Monday.

"Searchers are confident the girls are not in Meyers Lake," the newspaper quoted Abben as saying. Still, the lake, already low because of the dry weather, continued to be dragged on Monday and officers were assigned to stay there during the night and into Tuesday, authorities said on Monday evening.

A reward of $15,000 has been raised in an effort to find the girls, the Register reported.

Evansdale, a town of 4,500, is located in northeastern Iowa, about 100 miles northeast of Des Moines.

'Pushing those thoughts out of your mind'
The girls' families were holding out hope, according to news reports.

"Sometimes when you think about it, you wonder if they're dead somewhere, but you try to push those thoughts out of your mind," Misty Cook-Morrissey, Lyric's mother, told the Register.

"It's been good talking to people ? It keeps your mind off of what's happening," the paper quoted her as saying.

Elizabeth Collins' mother, Heather Collins, told the Register that it is rare for her daughter to venture too far from home.

"We've talked about that before," Collins said, according to the paper. "We've told them they're too young to go far."

Nokia hits RIM with another triple-patent combo punch

In the law of the playground, he who has the biggest rep holds court. In the world of mobile, though, it's all about your quiver of patents. Nokia has its fair share, and already flexed its litigation-muscle against RIM (among others). Now, it's popping another three in the chamber in this latest filing. It's Germany, again, the Madison Square Garden of the mobile world -- more specifically Munich. FOSS Patents asserts that Nokia has a much stronger IP portfolio than RIM, but that Waterloo will still likely countersue. So, perhaps another added benefit of concentrating on a smaller number of devices? Less patent toes to tread on.

Stolen Valor Act: Inspiration For Scott Brown's Bill Endorses Elizabeth Warren

WASHINGTON -- Vietnam veteran Doug Sterner, the inspiration for Massachusetts Sen. Scott Brown's recently introduced Stolen Valor Act, is endorsing Brown's Democratic opponent for Senate, he told The Huffington Post.

The Stolen Valor Act was originally signed into law in 2006, and made it a crime to lie about war heroism. On the same day that it validated President Barack Obama's health care law, the Supreme Court ruled that Stolen Valor is an unconstitutional restriction on free speech.

Brown and Nevada Republican Rep. Joe Heck quickly introduced a revised version that makes it a crime to lie about valor only if the liar profits. "I believe very strongly that we need new Stolen Valor legislation, and I support every effort to make that happen. But I don't want to see it co-opted for political purposes," he said of Brown's revised bill.

For Sterner, the day of the court ruling was sweeter than it was bitter. "I believe that one of the single most important issues facing America today is health care for all Americans. It's far more important than Stolen Valor," he said.

During an interview on Stolen Valor the day of the decision, he said he had to suppress a "squeal of glee" when he heard in the background that Obama's health care law had been upheld.

"That weighs very, very heavily on my decision" to endorse [Elizabeth] Warren, the lifelong Republican said. Expanding access to health care, he said, is "very much a matter of humanity."

Sterner served two tours in Vietnam and has spent years creating a database of war stories, debunking tall tales told by fraudulent heroes. His website, "Hall of Valor," is connected to the website of the Military Times. His wife, Pam Sterner, drafted the language that became the original Stolen Valor Act.

Pam Sterner's original bill never got a hearing and passed by unanimous consent. Doug Sterner said he thinks that if more deliberation had been taken in the legislative process, the constitutionality questions may have been addressed.

"While I welcome attention to Heck-Brown," he said, "I hope that this time we don't rush to pass just any bill."

Egypt's legislature convenes despite court ruling

CAIRO (AP) ? Egypt's Islamist-dominated parliament opened a new front in the country's leadership showdowns Tuesday by meeting in defiance of orders that disbanded the chamber and brought President Mohammed Morsi in conflict with both the powerful military and the highest court.

The session was brief ? lasting just five minutes ? and suggested that lawmakers sought more of a symbolic stance rather than a full-scale backlash against rulings that invalidated the chamber over apparent irregularities in Egypt's first elections since the fall of Hosni Mubarak 17 months ago.

But it further nudged Egypt deeper into a potential power struggle between Morsi and military chiefs, who have vowed to uphold the judicial ruling that led to parliament being dissolved last month.

For the moment, all sides appear to be moving with some caution in acknowledgment of Egypt's volatile backdrop: The military with the power to clamp down on dissent but without widespread support on the streets where Morsi's Muslim Brotherhood is strong.

Security forces made no attempt to block lawmakers as they arrived at the parliament building in central Cairo. Later, thousands joined a pro-Morsi rally in Cairo's Tahrir Square as riot police kept their distance.

In the background, meanwhile, a special panel is working on Egypt's post-Mubarak constitution and an all-out battle between the rising Brotherhood and the country's old guard establishment could send the entire process into a tailspin.

The crisis atmosphere has grown steadily since Morsi issued an order Sunday to reconvene the 508-seat legislature. His executive order said it was revoking the military's June 15 order to disband the chamber based on the previous ruling by the Supreme Constitutional Court.

The court said a third of the chamber's members were elected illegally by allowing candidates from political parties to contest seats set aside for independent candidates. The court is expected to rule on three cases questioning the legality of the president's order. A lower court also looking into complaints against Morsi's order postponed its decision until July 17.

Morsi's presidential decree also called for new parliamentary elections after a new constitution is adopted, which is not expected before the end of the year. In effect, it puts the current parliament in a sort of caretaker status ? raising further speculation that Morsi could be buying time with the current defiance.

The dispute over the fate of parliament has divided the nation just as Egyptians hoped for a semblance of stability after the tumult since the Arab Spring ouster of Mubarak. Egypt has seen a dramatic surge in crime, deadly street protests, a faltering economy and seemingly non-stop strikes, sit-ins and demonstrations.

The latest crisis drew a warning from U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, who is scheduled to visit Egypt this weekend. She urged Morsi and the military to settle their differences or risk seeing their nation's democratic transition derailed. "We strongly urge dialogue and a concerted effort on the part of all to try to deal with the problems that are understandable, but have to be resolved in order to avoid the kind of difficulties that could derail the transition that is going on," said Clinton in Vietnam.

Parliament Speaker Saad el-Katatni told lawmakers that the legislature met to find ways to implement the court ruling rather than debate it out of respect for the principles of "the supremacy of the law and separation of authorities."

But he put forward a plan to seek what amounts to a "second opinion" from an appeals court on the ruling. It was not immediately clear, however, whether the appeals court would accept the legislature's request. The move, however, may have been designed as a face saving measure ? defying the military's order to disband the legislature while making a show of respect for the law.

Both Morsi and el-Katatni are longtime members of the Muslim Brotherhood, the fundamentalist group that has long been at odds with successive Egyptian governments.

In its only public comment on the dispute, the military Monday delivered a thinly veiled warning to Morsi, saying the armed forces sides with the "constitution, legitimacy and law" ? language that means the powerful military will not stand by and watch a ruling by the country's highest court ignored or breached.

The military handed over power to Morsi on June 30 after ruling Egypt since Mubarak's downfall.

In the run-up to the handover, the military declared itself the country's legislative authority in the absence of a parliament and gave itself control over the drafting of a new constitution and the national budget. The generals also stripped Morsi of significant powers.

For the second consecutive day, Morsi attended a military graduation ceremony, apparently in a bid to ease the perception of a growing showdown with the country's powerful generals. Also present in Tuesday's ceremony in a Nile Delta air base was Field Marshal Hussein Tantawi, the country's top soldier, and his Chief-of-Staff Sami Anan.

Morsi is Egypt's first democratically elected president. Unlike his four predecessors, he does not have a military background and is not the supreme commander of the armed forces. Under a "constitutional declaration" issued by the military on June 17, Morsi cannot declare war or order troops on the streets in the case of a domestic crisis without prior agreement from the military.

Courtney Love is being sued for a former assistant who alleges malice, evil motives and despicable conduct on behalf of the Hole singer. Anyone surprised?

Jessica Labrie was hired by Love in June 2010 as an administrative assistant / "forensic research aide" for $30 an hour. Not a bad gig if you can get it!

Well, unless your boss is Courtney Love, a bona fide nut job whose own daughter emancipated herself and who makes Horrible Bosses quotes look tame.

Long story short ... do not work for this chick, bad job market or not.

Among Labrie's allegations, per the legal complaint:

• Love had her working 60-hour-plus weeks without overtime
• Love asked her to hire a computer hacker
• Love directed her to send fake legal correspondence
• Love promised to help with Labrie's Yale tuition and did not, nor did she pay any promised bonuses or land her a promised job on the set of a Nirvana biopic.

Labrie also states that, in addition to repeatedly asking for the money she was owed, she voiced concerns about the musician's unethical and illegal activity.

She is seeking damages for wrongful termination, failure to pay wages, negligent misrepresentation, breach of contract and infliction of emotional distress.

Kathy Griffin Jokes About Demi Lovato Cutting Herself: Fair or Foul?

On a recent installment of her self-titled talk show, Kathy Griffin introduced Jimmy Kimmel by joking that she's often the go-to guest on his program whenever another celebrity cancels at the last moment.

And she did so at the expense of Miley Cyrus and Demi Lovato.

Speaking of Kimmel and his producers, Griffin told the audience:

"I'm the person [they] call if Demi Lovato is cutting, or if Miley Cyrus flashed her crotch again, and it's too breezy down there."

As you might expect, based on Demi's documented history with self-mutilation, the singer's fans have rushed to her defense on Twitter.

"Kathy Griffin is an old tart who's mad Demi is beautiful and funny without having to rehearse jokes others wrote for her," one follower wrote, while another added:

"Truly disappointed with @kathygriffin making a joke of @ddlovato's struggles with self-harm, there's nothing funny about it."

HP unveils four new business and consumer all-in-ones with Ivy Bridge insides

HP announced a raft of new Ivy Bridge desktops back in April, but it had a few more all-in-ones up its sleeve. Today the company is unveiling a mix of business- and consumer-targeted machines: the Compaq Elite 8300, Compaq Pro 6300, Envy 23 and Pavilion 23.

Let's tackle the business models first. Starting at $879, the 23-inch Compaq Elite 8300 is available with second- or third-gen Intel processors and integrated or discrete graphics options. A $929 configuration comes with a multitouch-enabled display. The Compaq Pro 6300, going for $799 and up, doesn't offer touch functionality, but it includes corporate-friendly security software via HP ProtectTools and, like the Elite 8300, can be configured with either Ivy Bridge or Sandy Bridge CPUs. The 6300 features a 21-inch LED-backlit display and an optional 2-megapixel webcam. The Compaq Elite 8300 will go on sale September 10th, while the 6300 will hit stores on September 3rd.

On the home PC side of things, there's the $950 HP Envy 23, which sports a 23-inch 1080p screen and a free-standing design with edge-to-edge glass. Beats Audio is on board, and the model is available with Ivy Bridge or AMD trinity processors, up to 2TB of storage, an HDMI-in port, a Blu-ray drive and a TV tuner. Like the Envy 23, the $650 HP Pavilion 23 has a 23-inch 1080p panel and is configurable with up to a 2TB hard drive and either Intel (up to Core i5 Ivy Bridge) or AMD CPUs.
